Jordan is a land that witnessed the early period of Islamic history. Many students who come to Amman to learn Arabic also want to see places they know from the Qur’an and the biography of the Prophet. This trip complements your language study with a spiritual and historical visit.
Shrines of the Prophet’s companions
Across Jordan there are several shrines and tombs connected with the Prophet’s companions and the early Muslim community. Among those mentioned are the shrines of Zayd ibn Harithah, Ja’far ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Rawahah, who fell at the Battle of Mu’tah, as well as other companions’ shrines in the Jordan Valley. During the visit you are given information about the events connected with each place, so you can see on the ground what you have read about.
The Cave of the Seven Sleepers (Ashab al-Kahf)
A cave near Amman is known in Jordan as the Cave of the Seven Sleepers and is visited as such. Remembered in connection with the story of the People of the Cave in the Qur’an, it is one of the most meaningful stops for many visitors. There are different traditions about where the cave is located, and we pass on the visiting tradition in Jordan.
The Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery and other stops
Stops that recall shared history with Türkiye, such as the Turkish Martyrs’ Cemetery in Jordan, can also be added to the programme. The route is shaped by the group’s wishes and available time.
Language practice and etiquette
The greetings, prayers and information you hear during the visits are a good chance to use the Arabic you have learned in class. Visitors are expected to behave respectfully, dress modestly and follow the rules of each site.
Planning the visit
Islamic visits can be added to packages that include excursions. Which stops are included depends on the length and timing of your package. For the current route and dates, please get in touch through our contact page. You can also see all our excursions on the Cultural Trips in Jordan page.
