Amman is a capital built over several hills with a history of thousands of years. Because you will already be living in the city during your programme, the Amman trip is less a tourist route than a chance to get to know the city you are studying in more deeply.
The Roman Theatre
The Roman Theatre in the city centre dates from the 2nd century and still stands today, with seating for thousands of people. It can be visited together with the surrounding market and cafés. Sitting on its steps and watching the city is a good break for students who are still getting used to a new place in their first days.
Jabal al-Qal’a (the Citadel)
The Citadel is one of the highest hills in Amman and carries traces of many civilisations. The remains of the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad palace complex are here, and the hilltop offers a panorama of the city. Reading the Arabic information boards about the history of the area is a good way to build your vocabulary.
Jabal al-Lweibdeh
Jabal al-Lweibdeh, where our face-to-face lessons take place, is a quiet neighbourhood known for its art galleries, cafés and murals. Students pass through it as part of daily life, and seeing it as part of a guided trip offers a different perspective on the area.
The University of Jordan and the city centre
Visiting the University of Jordan gives you an idea of Arabic education and academic life. Shopping and bargaining in the downtown market is a fun way to test your Arabic in real situations.
